Nataraja Shiva the God of Dance
Here Lord Shiva is presenting the fast movement of the actual time factor, the destroyer of all. Standing on the Demon Apasmara who represents the ignorance, Lord Shiva rules this mood and is worshipped to overcome it. This particular Murthy is worshipped in the famous town Tanjore in the Brhadeswara Temple from the time of the Chola dynasty (11th century AD). It is made in such a way that it looks very similar like the original one from Tanjore, so the patina of antiquity is looking perfect.
But actually Lord Nataraja is worshipped from time immemorial and that is what he also represents - God is found in Time and minimal size of atom, the moving force of creation, maintenance and destruction.
Mantra:
Om Namah Shivᾱya
