Medicine Buddha is called Bhaisajyaguru in Sanskrit. He is known to be "Medicine master and King of Lapis Lazuli light."
His status can be seen symbolically. Curing the illness of suffering using the medicine of his teachings.
The practise of Medicine Buddha is not only a very powerful method for healing and increasing healing powers for oneself and others, it is also for overcoming inner sickness of attachment, hatred, and ignorance and therefore meditating on Medicine Buddha helps decreasing physical and mental illness and suffering.
Medicine Buddha is typically depicted seated, wearing three robes of a Buddhist monk, holding a jar of medicine nectar in his left hand and the right hand resting on his right knee, holding the stem of the Aruna fruit or Myrobalan between thumb and forefinger.
